“Law chief in supreme court warning: The lord president of Scotland’s highest civil court yesterday warned that the creation of a UK supreme court would be “retrograde and damaging” to the separate identity of Scots law. He demanded a limit on its powers [. . .]
“If the proposal for a UK supreme court is to proceed, it is vital that the binding effect of its decisions in civil appeals should be limited to the jurisdiction from which the appeal has come from, and that there are sufficient safeguards built in to the powers of the proposed court to perserve the separate identity of the civil and criminal law of Scotland. . .” HeraldReports and publications page of the Constitutional Affairs Committee, London.
