In April 2007, a new gender equality duty will come into force, similar but not identical to the existing race equality duty and forthcoming disability duty. The duty requires all public authorities to pay due regard to the elimination of sex discrimination and harassment, and to promote equality between women and men.
The Equal Opportunities Commission is producing a statutory Scottish Code of Practice on the duty, which is under consultation and will be in the public domain in October. The Commission will be producing guidance for a number of different sectors in Scotland – health, higher, further and schools education, local government, central government and criminal justice.
The EOC is therefore inviting tenders for people interested in contracting as an expert contributor to be responsible for providing advice on key issues to be included in early drafts, and for providing comments on key sections to support the EOC to meet the objectives for the work in relation to criminal justice.
Deadline for responses: 29 June for work to be done in July and August.
