Prison Statistics for 2004/5 published

The Prison Statistics for Scotland covering the year 2004/5 were published on Friday to negligible media comment (on-line) and no Scottish Executive press release. The imprisonment rate on the 1st September 2004 was 135 per 100,000. Scotland therefore has the second highest rate of imprisonment in western Europe (with Portugal), only topped by England and Wales at 142 per 100,000.
